Greetings and Salutations Doll Friends!
This Summer has been a Summer for travel so far... Due to some problems in my family (too much to get in to) I have been traveling. As I mentioned in my last blog post, I left my house hastily before my trip and didn't even think to bring one doll! I know!? Who am I even?! Right?!
However God is faithful and always provides... I miss my dolls at home obviously but in the meantime He has sent me yet another doll on my travels. This time I almost fell over when, at a thrift shop here in Alabama where I traveled to in this leg of my journey, I found an American Girl Doll Kit!! She was only $2.99!! She needed quite a lot of work to clean her up but I knew I would be able to make her right as rain. Here she is when I got her (see above). She was very very dirty and her poor limbs were so loose that her she literally wasn't able to stand at all. I wish I'd taken more 'before' photos but I just set to work on getting her sorted out and didn't think to.
I did take this one photo from when I was cleaning her up. I am not sure you can tell but on her arm there is one spot where I'd cleaned and wanted to show you the difference between the dirty part and the clean part. Poor dear had been through a trial obviously and had apparently never gotten a 'bath'.
Then, using techniques I learned on YouTube from other amazing doll collectors (how did we ever live without YouTube and it's instructional videos? Eh?) I tightened up her limbs so she can stand and pose her arms just perfectly. It was really the first time I'd ever tried to tighten limbs before! I'd always been too afraid to mess them up or something! This poor dear was so far gone though that I knew I couldn't possibly make her worse!!
The same thrift shop had these items as well, see the little Kit Book in the bag of books for $1! Score!! I am betting it was donated by same person that donated the doll. The little bag of dolls had two Our Generation small dolls and I got the little 'crib' to use with the baby doll siblings I got and mentioned in my last post.
Then, because the poor dear was totally naked, I saw these bags of what I thought were all doll clothes or build a bear clothes and picked them up. Sadly the one on the bottom right was dog clothes! Haha! Ooops! But the others were, indeed, build a bear clothes and even a few American Girl Doll clothes! So that was nice.
So here is Kit wearing the top I got in the Our Generation set I mentioned in my last post and a little pair of denim capri's I got in the bags above. Isn't she fantastic?! I've always wanted to get a Kit Kittredge Doll for my collection and so I am so glad I found her! I just love finding dolls that need to be fixed up and making them pretty again. It just makes me happy.
Well, I better run if I am going to get another blog post up this morning like I want to.
I hope this finds you having a fantastic Summer!
