Greetings and Salutations Doll Friends!
The strangest thing happened last week... I was at one of my favorite thrift stores and found a doll I'd never seen before. She was marked $2 and had such a pretty sculpt that I decided I'd bring her home if only to show you and to research her better. However, when I looked her up, I found nothing? Not a thing. That is so strange. The doll in question? The doll in the photo above on the right... She is marked Holly 2020 on the back of her neck, is fully vinyl and is 15inches tall.
Here she is, isn't she pretty?
So, the strange part? About three days later, in a totally different thrift store in a totally different town who did I see? That's right, a doll just like her but with different hair and eye color. She was marked $3.99 but I decided it was, like, fate, and that I had to buy her. I have tried every Google search I could think of and I literally come up with nothing, information wise, about these pretty little dolls.
At first I thought they were 17 inches tall but after comparing them to a 14 inch Glitter Girls doll, I decided they were more likely 15 inches. Here they are alongside one of my Glitter Girls, Fifer, to show you the difference in height.
I also put her next to a Paola Reina Doll for a size comparison.
See, here is the price sticker on the first one I found.
And the price sticker on the second one I found. She was in a bit better shape, or at least cleaner but she didn't have shoes whereas the first one did.
Now for what I've seen at the thrift store lately and didn't bring home... These two girls were at the same store I got the first Holly Doll at.
Then, remember the Kinnex Doll I told you about in my last post? Well she was still at that store and right alongside her was this very old doll...
Not sure what kind of doll she is? I think she's about 25 inches tall?
She was very dirty and had what I think were rubber legs and arms.
She had a pretty little face.
At that same store were these cute little Elsa and Anna Disney Animator Dolls. I've always thought they were so pretty but have never allowed myself to indulge in buying even ONE lest I end up with a totally new collection. They are ever so pretty though.
I think this Elsa was the sister to the Anna above actually...
I saw this Disney Merida... Love her expression.
I saw this pretty Journey Girl...
She had on the most... Interesting outfit... Heehee.
I saw this Cayla Doll... I actually had one once... They can 'talk'. As I said in that post about the one I had, they kind of give me the creeps. Hahaha.
I'm not in to baby dolls but I found this one interesting.
I think it was a hand made doll....? I mean from a kit or something? This was the marking on the neck.
Speaking of baby dolls, I saw this Bitty Baby high chair.
A horse and a pony...
Then I found another horse and sat it alongside them.
I saw these cute white chairs. Once upon a time I'd have picked them up but... No longer have enough room and have plenty of doll chairs.
Then the same day I found the second Holly doll? I found this doll marked My Way Kids Dolls.
She had the prettiest face sculpt... I mean she was filthy but beautiful!
I found this post about this type of doll.
She had the strangest head sculpt... It looks like the back of her head is removable? Apparently, per that Just Magic post, when they were in stores in the mall you could pick the face and hair and clothes and they'd put them together in about an hour? Interesting!
Here she is alongside an older Battat 18inch doll... As you can see she's just a bit taller, 19inches.
I also found this American Girl Doll doll bag...
I used the Holly Doll to model how it works.
Lastly I saw this large collection of Larco Dolls of All Nations that someone had donated. All of them were in their boxes and in very good condition. I think they were about 8 inches tall... The boxes say they were from 1979, so in great shape for 40+ year old dolls!
In the title of this post I mentioned 'Doller Block'... I have to confess that seems to be what I've been suffering from for quite some time now. It makes me very distressed but I've just been... What to call it? Unmotivated? To do much at all with my doll hobby. I mean I guess I've run full bore at it for years now and I guess hobbies wax and wane. I have ever so many doll projects just sitting on hold waiting for me. I'm hopeful that when it gets cold again perhaps the right doll muse will hit me and I'll get back to it... I guess, too, I've been working overtime at work since like February and the shortage of time really doesn't help. Between work, church, Bible study groups and being a mom of teenagers and doing house work and grocery shopping and my daily walk and yoga... There just never seems to be enough time. I just need to schedule in doll time I guess. In any case, I have zero desire to get rid of my beautiful dolls so I don't think I've lost the doll love. This season too shall pass and I'm sure I'll pick them up again... So many I want to rewig and clean up and photograph and sew for...
All in good time.
In the meantime, dear readers, thanks for your sweet friendship and loyal readership!
It means so much to me. 💗
Better run.

The Holly 20202 dolls look a lot like the 15" Sum Sum dolls. The face sculpt and body look the same. But the eyes on your dolls look different.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to learn more about the My Way Kids dolls, Emily over at the My Twinn Project blog has been doing some restoration/customizing work on them! https://mytwinnproject.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteAs far as the mystery Holly dolls go, they remind me a bit of those Mei Mei 18" dolls from Amazon. If you're on Facebook at all, there is a group called Let's ID Our Dolls that could help you figure out who they are.
Has anyone identified your 15" 2020 Holly dolls? I just got the same doll at a thrift store, although I'd say it's actually 16" but I have the one with the light ashe blond hair and same original lavender dress & shoes. No one has been able to help me identify mine either. Thank you very much for any comments. Rebekah
ReplyDeleteYou're the first person I've heard from about them sadly... I wish I could be of more help. <3
DeleteThanks so much for your reply. The mystery remains! Hopefully some day it will be solved. I've even asked a doll expert on eBay about this doll and so far she is stumped as well. Fun fun fun and very frustrating. I appreciate it!
DeleteMy daughter has one as well. She was a gift, and not in a package. We can't find any other info on her. She has a darker skin tone than the dolls you have, with auburn hair, but is definitely the same doll with the same markings on her neck. Baby Alive clothes fit her loosely, and American Girl shoes will sort of stay on, with help from a hair tie, lol.
