Gotz 1990 Signed Doll Gets A Hair Makeover!

Hi Doll Friends!

One doll in my collection that I've often considered 'what to do' with is my Vintage 1990 Gotz Doll. I treasure her because she is signed and she is from a 'good year' and is signed... But, being a 'soft body' doll, she literally never got included in any posts because she can't stand at all. She really doesn't even sit real well without a chair to hold her up...

Also, her hair... I did my upmost to fix it but, she'd been terribly treated very well loved by her former owner and a lot of her hair had been ripped out by rough brushing. It was also in a very 1990's style... I know, I had same haircut around that year. Hahaha. Cutting her hair off though, given that she was signed, seemed extreme to me! However... She just sat and sat and sat and collected dust. It didn't seem fair really. So... what to do?

I bit the bullet and cut off her hair and gave her a new wig!

I also decided to embrace her being unable to stand or sit very well on her own... To make it part of her 'story' if you will. I've decided her story will be that she is a handi-capable parapelgic. I haven't decided what the story of how her condition came about...? Hmm...?

See? You could see her scalp very easily through her hair...

See all the totally empty hair plug holes?

So, really, what did I have to loose? I did try and wash her hair again and brushed it out one last time, just to see if I could make it improve... But... Nope. So... I bit the bullet and cut it off!

When I cut it off, I kind of planned that this would be the wig she'd wear. It was the same color, nearly, as her original hair. I tried it on and thought she looked adorable! I kept snapping photos even, congratulating myself on how fabulous she looked...

And she does look really cute with the blonde wig... Or at least it's a vast improvement on her half bald hair. Still... I had the exact same wig in red and I figured I might as well try it on her...

Here is the back of the blonde wig...

Cute! But....

Oh. My. Cuter!!

I love love love her new style!!

She's just so pretty!!

I actually asked a few peoples opinion to see if they agreed with me and it was unanimous, the red hair stays! I am also planning on repainting her lips... I just wanna find the perfect color first. So, expect to see her in posts more going forward!! I named her Stevie quite a while ago, after Stevie Knicks who has long been a favorite performer of mine! I plan to keep the name because it kind of stuck...

Gotz 14 Inch Hip Girl From eBay!!

Hi Doll Friends!!

Uh-oh... Algorithms got me again... eBay saw that I'd been searching for 14inch dolls recently as I was looking for the Glitter Girl dolls. So, about a week ago, this little lady showed up in my suggestions from eBay. I was intrigued...

A 14inch Gotz doll? What? I'd never heard of them. So I went off researching to find what I could find about 'Hip Girls' from Gotz... And.... Not much information is out there about them, at least as far as I could find. Mostly just prior auctions at various auction websites... Hmmm...

I knew she'd be top notch in quality because all Gotz dolls are really... She was still new in the box (obviously) and her starting price as only $29.99 (with $10/ship) and so I put in the minimum bid amount and waited to see if I got her for that price. And... Sure enough... I won the auction. She arrived day before yesterday...

I haven't really had the chance to look her over properly yet but had to come show you!!

I'll be back with a more proper look at her as soon as I can get one photo'd and posted. Have any of you ever heard of this kind of doll? Let me know in the comments. In any case, I think she's adorable!!

Our Generation Doll Bike Find at Goodwill!!

Greetings and Salutations Doll Friends!!

When I was a little girl, I always fancied having a 'brand new pink bike with a basket with flowers on it' like many of my friends often had. As it was, my father was a bit of a genius with regards to bike repair and since he was, he always saw brand new bikes as a frivilous expendeture our humble family of six couldn't afford when he could build me a bike out of spare parts from second hand sources. I know... The tragedy! I am kidding... I always had a bike and that was better than many children. This last week at Goodwill though, God proved to me that He knows and remembers even our childish wishes and sometimes it's just a matter of being patient enough for them to arrive.

Because look what I found!! A pretty pink bike with a basket with flowers for the dollies. I couldn't have been more than thrilled. Ironically enough, it had a few broken bits. What's funny is, as a grown woman, this fact actually make the bike more meaingful to me because there is nothing I love more than a good redemption story! Be it for a doll or a doll bike or a person, I love hearing about broken becoming mended. You know? I don't know how much time or energy I'll put into fixing the pedals? Unless you're looking for it, you don't notice them and I think it'll make a good enough doll bike for photos.... What do you think? I am sure my husband could figure out some thing to use to make pedals so maybe I'll change my mind? For now, I couldn't wait to get it out and photograph it!

Here are MarissaDoll and KarrieDoll checking out the bike in the driveway on a nice afternoon last week after I brought it home.

They were so excited!! Marissa hasn't learned to ride a bike yet and so she let Karrie give it the first go!

She sat on the curb to watch.

The basket is just perfect to put the dolls bag into it!

Isn't it cute! I paid $5.99 for it at Goodwill. You can still find the new version from Our Generation at Target. It's $35.99 regular price as I write this. That's a bit rich for my blood but I don't think it's that bad a price considering it really is a heavy metal bike. I am telling you, I think if dolls came to life and could really push the pedals, they could totally ride it for real!

Karrie looks so cute on it!

There she goes!

What a great bike find!

That's it for now doll friends!!
Till next time!

More Thrift Shop Doll Discoveries and Makeovers!

Greetings Doll Friends!

We went into town on Saturday and I went by two of my favorite thrift shops. Low and behold, at New Life Thrift (my favorite thrift shop in all the world for good reason!) I found not one but two 18" dolls!

They were in pretty rough shape but it was mostly just dirt and I knew they'd clean up well.

This is a Pottery Barn Gotz doll and an Our Generation doll.

The Gotz had some sort of white stuff (paint?) on her forehead and unfortunately her gorgeous hair had been cut in front and would be impossible to save. Shame because the hair on these dolls is top notch!

The Our Gen also had her hair cut but I think it's not so bad that I'll have to give her new hair...

They were $4.95 each. Not the best price I have ever paid but less than shipping would've been on one doll from eBay for both dolls. So, pretty good!

Not to mention the OG doll had on this cute dress.

They write the prices on things at this store with china marker. It's like a wax crayon... It will come off but with a lot of elbow grease. I wouldn't mind if they'd price things with stickers but that's how they've always done it.

They were so dirty. Whenever I find dolls like this I can't help but think "Who would DO this to a doll?!" But then I recall that some people see them as no different than other toys and I guess I get it. Still hard to see! That's one reason I love rescuing them from thrift stores. So I can give them back their dignity! Haha.

The OG dolls hair was in really good shape other than the cut in bangs.

So was the Gotz but since they'd sheared off the front, it'd have to go!

The OG was incredibly dirty! I seriously think she might have been run over by a bike or something? She also had this small hole in her torso.

I performes surgery and stitched her up. She has a scar but better than a hole!

Here she is, all cleaned up and wearing a dress.

Here I am about to cut hair off Gotz. Was painful! But had to happen... I tried three wigs on her...

The first one was ok...

The second was my favorite! She will keep this one on until I get another one for her in same style and color because it's perfect! This wig is pretty but has not been treated well (it came in a bag of doll wigs I got at a Thrift Store a while ago...) and so I plan to replace it. But it looks great!!

I tried this one on too... But 1) I plain liked the black wig better and 2) this wig almost seemed too small for her...? Which is odd because I thought Gotz and OG and AG heads were nearly identical in size. Who knew? So when I order her a new black wig, I think I'll order it in 11/12 instead of 10/11.

She does look cute enough in it too though. By way, I have like five of these wigs because I get them for 99c plus $5 shipping sometimes and that's hard to pass up! When a $2 thrift shop doll needs new hair, it's hard to want to spend $25 on a new wig for them! You know what I mean?

However Gotz dolls are $100 new and so spending a bit more for a wig for her won't bug me as much.

Do you agree the black wig with bangs is best or do you like one of others better?

It's the 4th of July today which means lazy day off work... Hoping to get some more doll projects done! Cleaned out my dolls space yesterday, some, and sorted things. Always nice to get more organized!

Happy Independence Day!
Till next time!
