Kingsstate Doll 18inch Collection!

Hi Doll Friends!

When I madeover my rainbow wig Kingstate doll I decided it might be fun to do group photos of all the dolls with their own 'kind' of doll. So, since she was my inspiration I decided to start with my Kingstate dolls.

Which, ironically enough, are all customized. Lets just say this sort of doll isn't made with the best hair! One of them, Paul Joseph came with an entirely different kind of body...?

These two (above photo) came from thrift shops...

Then my Melanie Kingstate doll has an entirely different look altogether. I can't decide if I think that the face scuplt is the same but her eyes are much different... So it's interesting how different the dolls can be despite all being Kingstate dolls.

More Doll Collection photos on the way... I worked on photographing some of them yesterday!

Till then!

Thrift Store Kingstate Doll Makeover with Rainbow Wig!

Greetings and Salutations Doll Friends!!

My goodness, I am so behind on getting my drafts written! I may have said before but the way that I do my blog is I take photos with my phone and upload the photos into Blogger App but then do the writing from the computer. Suffice to say I've not been finding the time to make it to my computer in off work hours... So I am hoping to catch up with a few of the things I've recently uploaded into drafts to tell you about! The first one will be my recent thrift store doll find...

I got a Kingstate 18inch Doll with brown hair and brown eyes... Her hair was a fright!!

It was in such a mess that I knew I wouldn't even bother trying to fix it, I'd just give her all new hair... I have a bag of doll wigs at home that I've gotten on good deals on eBay or that I've purchased for other dolls and then not liked the way they looked on them or whatnot... So I pulled off her messy wig and started trying on others.

Here she is as she arrived... Her dress is really cute and probably worth what I paid for her all by itself.

See? She was only $1.99! I couldn't leave her at the store!! Right?

The thing about Kingstate dolls is their heads are just a smidge smaller than other 18inch doll varieties... I had originally purchased this rainbow wig on eBay not knowing it'd be a bit too small for the 18inch doll I bought it for. I've tried it on a couple of smaller dolls and liked it but never well enough to glue it down. So, I tried it on this doll... And I love it!! I think she looks adorable!

The wig quality isn't as top-notch as some I've seen but it's a definate improvement over the wig she had when she arrived! She loves it too! She told me so. *winks-eye*

I haven't decided what to name her yet... I'll take suggestions! I haven't glued on her wig yet but mainly because I think it looks so cute I haven't wanted to take it back off and also, it fits pretty well and unless I were going to let children play with her, I think it stays on pretty well on it's own.

I hadn't even cleaned her up otherwise when I took these photos but just loved her look and had to take a picture.

Stay tuned to upcoming blog posts for a group photo of her with the other Kingstate dolls I have in my collection. They really have a cute face mold and this one is totally different than the other three I have but I love her face mold as well or more than theirs... Dolls! Who would've ever guessed there is such a variety, huh?

Till next time!

Kingstate 18inch Doll eBay Score!

Hi Doll Friends!!

She arrived yesterday!! I got her on eBay for a steal after she turned up on my 'saved searches'. I'd been wanting to get/review a Kingstate doll since I'd seen them but they are generally a bit more than I'd like to pay on eBay.

But not this beauty... The seller had a "Make an Offer' on the auction and when they do and I am going to bid anyway, I always make an offer! I generally offer 15-25% off what they are asking... They can always say no and if they say yes, we are both happy!

Isn't she pretty?!

I got her for $12.99 plus $7.00 shipping! When she came out the box, her dress was a bit dirty... It's a Laura Ashley 18inch doll dress and it was in great shape but dusty. I am sort of planning, as a fun little experiment, to list the dress itself on eBay to recoupe some of the cost of the doll... I have loads of doll dresses but Laura Ashley dresses tend to fetch a pretty penny on eBay all by themselves. So we will see how it cleans up and I'll give it a go...

She is constructed very well and in the same way as many soft bodied 18inch dolls with poseable arms and legs at the hip and shoulder joints and a head that can turn from side to side... Her wig quality leaves a bit to be desired but I plan to try and sort it and see what can be done. If it ends up I don't like how it comes out, did I mention I have a bevy of wigs on the way... So, she may end up looking entirely different! We shall see. I named her Melanie. I'll get her cleaned up (she is a bit dirty, can you tell in the photos?) and come back and show you how she came out. She has such a pretty face and those eyes??! Gorgeous!

See!!? Always make an offer I say! Worse to worse they don't take it and you just pay the price they have listed... Eh?

Till next time!

Hybrid 18inch Boy Doll From Our Generation and Kingstate Doll

Hi Doll Friends!

I made a new hybrid boy doll today!

The head of the OG was stained with ink... I'd had it in a box in the basement since we moved as a possible body transplant doll. Or thought perhaps I'd try and get the ink off at some point with a trick I learned on a doll group on Facebook involving pimple cream and sunlight.

Then yesterday at lunch with my girlfriends (it's a Tuesday tradition!) my lovely friend Patricia pulled the Kingstate doll out of a bag and gave it to me!!! She knows I love to remake dolls and she said "this poor dear needs a makeover!". I love my friends! They know me so well. So, by design, the body of the Kingstate was the awkward kind that won't pose or stand well at all. Not to mention, the leg/foot was falling off and I wasn't sure how to fix it since it wasn't zip tied in but sewn in?

So I combined the two to make one boy doll. Happily had the wig on hand because I'd ordered it a while ago on eBay for another project doll. When it arrived it was a smidge too small for the OG doll I made over to a boy then... However, I noticed the Kingstate dolls head are smaller and the wig worked perfectly!

I am loving how he turned out! The OG body had a "mystery stain" and so I scrubbed the cloth body well with a Norwex cloth. (Side note: Norwex Enviro cloths are best thing to clean dolls with hands down as first measure before trying any solvents! 90% of stuff comes off no problem! No I don't sell it but there are oodles that do and when I love a product I tell about it!) Then I pulled out threw away all his polyfill and gave him new 'guts'. I glued his wig on and now it's just a matter of drying time! The body has the original owners name in sharpie on bottom of feet but I'll just keep him with shoes on. 😀
