New Custom Battat Little Friends 15Inch Boy Doll!

Happy Friday Doll Friends!!

Where do the weeks go? Seriously. So recently I've been on a bit of a 'smaller doll' binge with the Style Girls, Wellie Wishers, Bumbleberry Girls and other 14 inch dolls capturing my attention. I am not sure how many of you are aware, but the recent Glitter Girls by Battat are not their first attempt at younger sibling type dolls. In the early 2000's Battat released a 15inch doll line called Little Friends of which I own two. They are more like the Bumbleberry Girls than any of the other current 14 inch dolls in that they have a soft torso. Recently, I aquired a 14inch doll sized boy wig for free (a shipping error happened with the brown haired one I purchased and so they sent me a freebie for my trouble! Awesome, right?). So.... Who to convert to a boy doll?

Battat Little Friends and Battat 15inch are two of my saved searches on eBay. You know, for research. Teehee. Anyway, about the day I got the boy wig what shows up in my searches but this little dolly right here.

Before I even thought I snatched her up with a mind of making a Battat Little Friends Brother doll out of her. She was already wearing boy clothes! (Minus the bag)

Here she is the day she arrived. Her hair was a mess which always makes me feel less bad about chopping it all off and throwing it in the bin!

And Tada! Another boy doll was born! The blonde to his right is one of my other Little Friends named Stephanie. She's now his twin sister and so I am playing with the idea of naming him Stephen adn calling him Steve...? What do you think?

I posed them with one of the current Battat Glitter Girls named Keltie (I still haven't renamed her from her factory given name and it's starting to grow on me...). They are kind of distant cousins afterall, all being Battat dolls. Aren't they cute in the Doll House I got from Sam's Club recently?

They decided to take a little walk....

Off they go...!

And back already!

Time for a snack!

Steve fits right in! I don't think you can tell from the photos but he has some cool lavendar streaks in his hair so he's a bit of punk rock star looking kid. Very cool.

So, it'll be fun to have another smaller boy doll in the doll house to go with Giuseppe!

Better run!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Style Girl Compared To Wellie Wisher Doll!

Greetings and Salutations Doll Friends!!

Last week I heard about Big Lots having Style Girl 18inch and 14inch dolls and so I went in to the store to check them out.  I even bought an outfit to try out... On that day they asked me if I wanted to sign up for their 'club card' thing so they could send me special offers and I signed up because why not have offers of good deals, eh? So, low and behold, they emailed me a coupon for $5 off a purchase of $15 or more. Well, guess how much the 14inch glitter girls cost? That's right, $15! So,
I bought a 14" Style Girl Sunday since the coupon made her only $10. Her outfit was worth that, that unicorn! So cute!

Am really impressed at quality for cost! They are nearly identical to Wellie Wishers other than hair quality. Figured I'd show y'all how she was compared to a Wellie Wisher Doll from American Girl

Here is the side of the box. Her name is Quinn although I am sure she won't keep that name...

There are three different 14inch Style Girls in the line, Quinn, Skylar and Piper. I won't lie, I mainly chose Quinn because her outfit was my favorite of the two they had at the store I went to...

Here are a few of my other 14inch (and 15inch) dolls standing with her so you can see how they all look side by side. From left to right there is Stephanie Doll (a 15inch vintage Battat Little Friend), Simone (a Heart for Hearts doll), Adilyn (Wellie Wisher) and Marley (A Melissa and Doug Doll)

Pretty simple box and only three ties to cut and she's out of the box!

Here she is!

And the back of her....

She is marked 'New Adventures' on the back of her neck.

I have to tell you I was kind of shocked at how similar they are!!

They have nearly identical feet both is size and shape...

See? You can barely tell, without knowing which was which, what doll's feet are the Wellies and which are the Style Girl's feet.

Their hand shape is exactly the same as best as I can tell.

I was also delighted at how 'heavy/ and 'sturdy' the Style Girl is... She's not exactly the same quality as the Wellie but honestly her arms, legs and hands are all a nice vinyl and her torso is made out of a sturdy, although harder, plastic. They really aren't all that much different when it comes to body shape.

They both have marks on their back about who they are.

The Style Girl has 'New Adventures' on her back.

And the Wellie has American Girl... (and a bunch of other writing... Kind of too much in my opinion but she's always wearing clothes so I guess it doesn't matter all that much... But way to write a novel on her back there AG?!

Here is Adilyn in the Style Girls outfit and the Style Girl wearing Wellie Wisher clothes. Perfect fits on both!

Here is the new Style Girl with some of her new sisters from the Doll House.

So, all in all, she's a pretty nifty little doll for a quarter of the cost of a Wellie Wisher. Obviously she can't be perfect... Her hair is rooted and like my 18 Inch Style Girl Isla, her hair is a bit on the thin and 'not too great' hair quality. I mean, it's workable but just not as thick and lovely as I like my Dolls Hair to be. So I am absolutely postive she is going to get new hair at some point in the future. I even already have a few wigs in her size on my watch list on eBay. I'm betting she'll end up with a rainbow type wig because I don't have any 14 inch dolls with 'fun' colored hair and now that I have several 18inch dolls with it, I need one, right!? She'll look adorable in a rainblow wig I think!

My recent obsession with 14inch dolls was sort of started by the recent release of Glitter Girls by Battat. I've stopped into Target at least 10 times in the last few weeks just checking to see if they'd made it to the shelves yet and no luck at all. I've also been searching online at Target and in Google... Well, I guess algorithms can sometimes be a good thing because this past weekend Amazon had a pop up and they are selling the Glitter Girls on Amazon!! So... I ordered two and an outfit and they actually arrived yesterday but it was church night and I didn't have much of a chance to look them over at all... So I'll be back soon to tell you all about them and show you which ones I got.

Better run!

Vintage 1998 Battat Our Generation 18Inch Doll Makeover

Greeting and Salutations Doll Friends!

I am actually typing this on an actual computer...! I have blocked out a half an hour or so this morning to try and blitz through all the drafts I've posted lately on the blog. That is kind of how I roll. I do doll projects as they strike my fancy, taking photos as I go. Then edit photos and upload them to the Blogger app on my phone to await the writing part of the equation. It used to be I always did my writing from the computer but since the move, I've gotten in the bad habit of just doing the whole thing from my phone via thumbtyping. Have I mentioned I am an ace thumb typist? Haha! Modern day skillz, I have them. I digress... So I am determined to get to the computer more often. Posting from the phone works but I don't do the proper 'tagging' and now I have about six months of tagging to catch up on. Oh well, it'll all get sorted eventually. Meanwhile, back to the dolls...

I have never, in the past, really cared for the face mold of the 1998 Battat Our Generation 18inch dolls. I just thought they were a bit, um, how to say... masculine? Hence the only two I've ever purchased before having been transformed into boy dolls. However... Perhaps you'll recall when I got my Battat Little Friend 15inch dolls? I have two of them, you can read about their home-coming stories here and here. Well, since having gotten those dolls, with just 'smaller' versions of the same face mold, their little faces have grown on me and I am quite fond of them. So... When I ran across a 1998Battat at a thrift store recently... I snatched her up, plunked down the $3.99 and brought her home!

She was kind of a mess when I found her, poor dear...

I mean she was in good shape, but very dingy and her hair... Oy!

I loved love loved the outfit she came in and it was a definate plus! I would've paid the $3.99 just for the 'letter jacket' for my boy dolls! I have one identical to it and so love having a second!

Having worked with this type of doll in the past, I knew going in that her wig would not come off if I lit an atomic bomb under her... So it gave me a bit more casual approach to attempting to salvage it. I decided I'd give it my best makeover and if it were still not good enough, I'd re-wig her. It would be good doll hair make-over experience.

So I worked the tangles out with my wig brush. Do you have a big brush for your dolls? If not BUY ONE. They make a world of difference. Sophia's Doll Brush is the one I use and I would really like to have about five of them cos I misplace it all over the house. Haha.

The tangles worked out after a lot of brushing.... Looking better...

Then I washed and conditioned her hair and hot-dipped her so it'd be a bit more tame.

She looks happier already!

I did trim off the really frizzy bits at the end of her hair... Again, nothing to lose!

I am actually really pleased with how the hair make-over turned out. Sadly, the wig was already too damaged going in but if it'd been in good shape, I'd have considered it a rescue. However, you may be able to tell from the photos, the wig had lost too much hair from rough handling and, well, she looks like she is balding or sommat. That won't do for my pretty little dolly!

You can see that she had a bit of a hair cut to part of her hair as well, see the back where the one lock is shorter?

Again, I was pretty impressed with what a bit of shampoo, conditioner and a hot dip accomplished but... She needed a new head of hair.

Here she is, pre-hair-shearing with one of the Battat Little Friends. They look like sisters!

Did I mention that getting the wigs off these dolls is nearly impossible? I've turned two 1998Battat dolls into boys and so I know... Their stories are here and here and so I didn't even bother trying to remove the old wig, I just sheared it down to as little hair as I could.

She looks a bit odd with the wig cap but once the wig is glued on, you'd never know it was under there.

I think she looks perfect!!!

I love her to bits!!

Isn't she fabulous?

Ok... ten more minutes... Off to try and get one more blog post completed!

Till next time!
